Following the Energy Principle

There’s a natural ebb and flow to life. The seasons come and go as the planet turns on it axis bringing night and day, afternoon and evening. And so goes our energy. It’s not something that’s in unlimited supply – ready to be tapped into whenever we need it. And with the end of the year there are more demands on it than ever...deadlines to meet, projects to finish, transactions to close, paperwork to file, presents to buy, food to stock, home repairs to complete, time to take...for ourselves! No, that last one isn’t often on the list.

But it should be. It should be and we know it should yet it so often is the last thing we get to and often only when sickness or exhaustion forces us to take a time out.

You’ve often heard me talk about Tony Schwartz’ book on energy - “The Power of Full Engagement” - and how he examined those who excel in various fields. It was their use of intervals of rest and recovery that helped them achieve at a high level.

We’re taking a few days off here at Buffini & Company to rest and recover. We’ve gone hard this year and poured all we have into serving you. Over the break we’ll recharge. And make sure you do the same. You’ve given all you have to your clients...now it’s time to relax with family and loved ones. Follow the energy principle. Take a time out. You deserve it!

It’s a good life!

What we must do to stay positive

I glanced at the headlines in a newspaper the other day. To my detriment! I don’t recall much about the stories, but I was, however, left with what I can only term a heavy mood. I’m sure it might have remained with me through the day had I not deliberately shook it off.

Over the years, I have been very deliberate about putting good stuff into my head - reading good books, surrounding myself with positive people, building upon successes, setting goals, attending seminars, listening to uplifting CDs – all to reinforce a positive reality.

Thing is, we don’t need anything to become immersed in negativity. We can sit still in a room by ourselves to become immobilized by that. Looking around it’s easy to feel as though we are in a sea of negativity but we have a choice; we can give into it and join the “begrudgers” and complainers, or we can get up and do something for ourselves, for our families and for our communities.

We must make a commitment to be positive…a commitment to keep on growing ourselves. Why? Because you are either growing up or growing down. You are either living or dying. Nothing stays the same. So we have to work to be positive. We have to try to have the positive experiences and ultimately success is a bi-product of those experiences.

Here are some things you can do to counter negativity in your day:

·       Find music that reminds you of a great time in your life – and play it!

·       Buy a copy of a really inspiring movie – and watch it!

·       Make a commitment to yourself that your primary pursuit is to grow yourself

Here’s one we can all follow: don’t let a bad headline ruin a great day.

It’s a good life!
