Burn the bridges

The sun is shining and the Summertime Surge is in full swing. Are you?

Over the years at our events you’ve heard me tell the story of the Spanish conqueror, Cortez. Reaching the Eastern shores of Mexico it became apparent over time that he and his men were going to have a battle on their hands. Problem was the men didn’t want to fight; they wanted to return home to Spain. Cortez had a mission, however, and so, he and his lieutenants went on board the ships one night and set them alight. Knowing that the option of ‘going home’ might lead to the men mutinying or refusing to fight, he took action to remove that possibility. Left with no choice but to go into battle and fight, they duly did just that.

There are times to burn your bridges, be committed and make what can feel like difficult decisions. My encouragement to you is to put yourself in a position where the only choice you have is success. At the end of the day this is all about your commitment to the business so it's time to hang tough. There are a number of people who want to tuck tail and run right now, but those who stay are not only going to win this fight, they’re going to prosper for years to come.

For want of a nail…

When things seem out of control or circumstances feel overwhelming, we’ll often try some grand gesture or radical U-turn to catapult us out of a rut. The benefits of a single day can seem too insignificant to truly have an impact. The reality is, however, that every great journey begins with a single step. Day-by-day, note-by-note and call-by-call, when you keep chipping away and being faithful with the fundamentals of working by referral you’ll weather this market and come out with a great business.

I wanted to share something powerful with you today. It’s a 17th Century French proverb that deals with the importance of doing the small thing right:

For want of a nail the shoe was lost,

For want of the shoe the horse was lost

For want of the horse the rider was lost

For want of the rider the message was lost

For want of the message the battle was lost

For want of the battle the war was lost.

All for the loss of a lone shoe nail

Aloha!

Webster’s online dictionary defines a vacation as a “scheduled period during which activity is suspended.” Well I’ve just gone through a very busy season so I’m taking a little vacation for a few days with my family in Hawaii. This is our week for a suspension of activity before we jump back into the fray, and now that we’re here it’s a clear reminder of how necessary rest and recuperation truly is.

I hope that when The Blitz wraps up you take time to step back and celebrate your achievements. This has been a tremendous drive by all of you and is a milestone worth marking. The results have been staggering and a mini vacation – even if it’s just a few hours doing something you enjoy – will fuel your momentum. As we head into these final couple of weeks, plan to take some time to suspend activities for just a bit and give yourself the congratulations you deserve at the finish line.

A Blitz is a Terrible Thing to Waste!

What a week! You guys are hard at work and we’re hearing incredible stories. Oh, by the way… we’re hearing these stories from our very own network – not from the cable news network!

The Blitz is beginning to make itself felt nationwide…I’ve had radio interviews recently to explain what we’re doing and how you guys are turning your backs on the fear mongering. When everything you hear is negative, turn to your fellow Buffini Members and remind each other that you are not interested in hearing what you can’t do, but eager to get after what you can. Actions speak louder…and this is an action plan, not a word plan. We’ll leave that one for the politicians!

You are amazing!

When Buffini & Company launched The Blitz we obviously thought it was a good idea and truly believed it would work. But if we made one mistake it was that we underestimated the level of tenacity, drive and determination that you, our Members, would display.

Less than two weeks into the Blitz over 250,000 Pop-Bys have been completed, more than 200,000 personal notes have been sent and 200,000+ phone calls collectively have been made to your databases.

So far, you folks have generated over 20,000 referrals for your businesses in less than two weeks. Apparently you guys have decided not to participate in this recession, are ignoring the doomsday brigade and have embraced the concept that a “recession is a terrible thing to waste.”

Each day Joe “The Blitzmaster” Niego and myself go over your emails, comments and stories. In the 13 years of Buffini & Company, I can honestly say: this is the most fun I’ve ever had; this is the most rewarding the work has ever been, and I’ll never again underestimate you guys.

Now don’t forget…it is a 90-day Blitz, not a ten day one. Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did. So keep up the good work. Let’s break records together. It looks like you guys are going to be just fine in 09.

Picking up the Pace…with The Blitz!

Top of the month everyone! The Blitz is finally here and almost 6000 of you nationwide are Blitzing your way toward a great first quarter.

Joe and I have thought the details of this program through and now that it’s Pop-By week, it’s time to get out there and get face-to-face with your best clients. Yes it may be winter out there but what better way to connect with clients than to drop in and see them on a chilly January morning? We know this is the toughest week in the program but it’s time to tough it out and get your business in shape.

  • Today and tomorrow you’ll be Popping-By 7 A+ clients…past clients, current clients or existing relationships. Give yourself a couple of hours and get after it.

  • Keep up the momentum and do another 7 Pop-Bys on Wednesday and Thursday to past clients. There’s a goldmine waiting; are you mining?

  • Friday is the day to connect with your Business Owners – 7 of them! It’s a great way to generate referrals and build the relationships that will sustain you through this market.

I’m so proud to see so many of our Members signed up for The Blitz. You’re not just changing the face of real estate; you’re recession-proofing your business at a time when many are waiting for proof of the recession.
